Debra Witter is the principal of The Witter Law Firm, with a focus on business transactions and agreements and mediation of business disputes.  Other areas of concentration include: e-commerce; marketing, advertising, sweepstakes and promotions; trademarks; franchising; licensing agreements; and entity formation. 

Ms. Witter is an accomplished, experienced senior legal executive with a demonstrated track record of success managing a variety of complex, innovative legal transactions in challenging, fast-paced environments.  Her focus is on finding cost-effective, practical solutions to legal challenges.  She can also provide small and medium-sized businesses that do not have in-house counsel with a wide range of "general counsel" services.  She offers flexible billing solutions including fixed fee arrangements for appropriate projects.

Clients include both large companies such as MetroPCS Wireless, Inc., a prepaid wireless provider, and ClubCorp USA, Inc., an operator of country clubs and resorts, as well as smaller, start-up ventures,  such as bare2britches, a manufacturer of innovative baby products, World War Art, an online art gallery, and Graces Inc., an online retailer.

Ms. Witter has practiced law in Dallas, Texas since 1982, both in law firm settings (large and small) and corporations (again, ranging from a small start-up to a Fortune 500 corporation).  Prior to establishing her own law practice, she was Senior Vice President, Legal for Blockbuster Inc., with responsibility for a variety of transactional and consumer issues.  Prior to that, Ms. Witter was general counsel for Star Concessions, Ltd., a company operating retail and restaurant concessions at airports.  She began her career at the law firm of Jenkens & Gilchrist and was also a partner in the law firm of Cohan, Simpson, Cowlishaw, Aranza & Wulff. 

Ms.  Witter is also trained as a mediator.  She completed the “Learn from the Masters” basic mediation training as well as the Dispute Mediation Services Practicum program.

The Witter Law Firm is certified as a Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) by the State of Texas.

Ms. Witter’s article “Individual Gun Rights, Gun Laws, and Franchising:  Why Franchisors Cannot Ignore the Controversy” appeared in the Spring 2010 edition of the American Bar Association Franchise Law Journal.  

Ms. Witter’s article “Revised FTC Guidelines Can Hold Advertisers Responsible” appeared in the March 2010 edition of the Dallas Bar Association Headnotes.

Ms. Witter has become a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas.  The College of the State Bar of Texas is an honorary society of lawyers who are among the best trained attorneys in Texas. Members are qualified attorneys who are interested in both high ethical standards and improved training for all Texas attorneys. The College recognizes Texas lawyers who attend at least double the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) required by the State Bar of Texas.

Ms. Witter has become a member of the Promotion Marketing Association.

Ms. Witter has become a member of the Texas Association of Mediators and the National Association of Women Lawyers.
